From the vibrant streets of Buenos Aires to the artistic heart of Brighton & Hove, Hell Hanna, the artistic moniker of Helen Gómez, is poised to ignite the UK art scene with her electrifying creations. This Colombian artist, whose work pulsates with neon hues and cyberpunk sensibilities, will be arriving in Brighton on April 24th to participate personally in the Artists Open Houses event in May 2025.
Hell Hanna and her UK representative Ken Johnson, who trades under the name HK Artlabs, have been collaborating for the past eight years, since they first met in Buenos Aires while Helen was studying graphic design. After living in the Argentine capital for over 20 years, Ken returned to the UK in 2020, transforming a flat in Grand Avenue, Hove, into a gallery space dedicated to showcasing Hell’s ever-growing collection.
Hell's art is a striking fusion of abstract lines, bold colours, and otherworldly influences. Across mediums like illustrations, tattoos, skate-art, and commissioned artwork, she crafts a unique visual language that speaks of sci-fi dystopias. Her daring use of neon colours, coupled with her clear inspiration from cyberpunk and sci-fi aesthetics, transports viewers to realms both familiar and fantastical.
"Her ideas almost certainly emanate from other worlds" Ken notes, hinting at the depths of imagination that fuel Hell's creative process.
Since showing in the UK, Hell's work has been gaining significant traction, with exhibitions and displays popping up in the Brighton and Hove area. 2023 saw her first international exhibition at the prestigious Brick Lane Gallery in London, solidifying her growing reputation on the global stage. Back in Buenos Aires, she's a respected teacher, about to embark on her third season of workshops where she shares her passion for applying painted art to skateboards with aspiring artists.
The Artists Open Houses event in December 2024 proved a resounding success, prompting the decision for Hell to make the journey from Buenos Aires to participate fully in the AOH May 2025 event. Visitors can expect to see framed editions of her captivating ink and acrylics on paper, alongside a selection of her striking skateboard art.
This May's event promises a unique opportunity to meet the artist in person and delve into the inspiration behind her captivating work. Hell, fluent in English, is eager to connect with the public and share her artistic vision.
